Amy Potter 
Amy grew up in Colorado and has been interested in health and wellness since she was young. She received her bachelor of arts in kinesiology from the University of Colorado in 2002 and a doctorate in physical therapy from Regis University in 2007. Amy has worked in various physical therapy settings in Colorado and California and is passionate about helping others. Her clinical interests include orthopaedic impairments; geriatric, spinal, post-surgical, and athletic injury rehabilitation; myofascial release; women’s health; and ACL injury prevention.

Julie RobisonPatient Representative
Julie was born in Michigan, where she completed a computer degree. She followed her sister Anne to Vail for one ski season and has stayed for 30!  Julie has worked at The Steadman Clinic, the Steadman Foundation, Vail Valley Medical Center, and Howard Head Sports Medicine.

Colleen Van Tiem – PT, DPT, SCS
Colleen grew up in Detroit, MI. She received her undergraduate degree in pre-physical therapy from the University of Dayton, where she founded and played on the women’s lacrosse team. Colleen earned her doctorate in physical therapy from Northwestern University. Following graduate school, she moved to Santa Cruz, CA for an opportunity to work in a large outpatient, orthopaedic setting. She then returned to her home state to work in a sports medicine clinic focusing on the treatment of high school and collegiate athletes. Colleen is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy who spent two years in our Vail location prior to joining the HHSM Westin team. Colleen’s areas of clinical interest include treatment of the hip and knee, the injured runner, and Pilates-based rehabilitation.

Rebecca White - Physical Therapist
Rebecca graduated in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in health sciences and certification in physical therapy from Cleveland State University. She is currently a member of the orthopedic and sports physical therapy sections of the american physical therapy association, american college of sports medicine and obtained her certificate in applied functional science from Gary Gray in 2014. Rebecca is a certified bike fit specialist with certification through BikePT and BikeFit. She enjoys treating individuals/athletes of all ages/levels recovering from sports related injuries or surgeries especially ankles, knees, hips, and shoulders.

Carly received her occupational therapy degree from Colorado State University. She began working at Howard Head Sports Medicine in 2000. Carly specializes in the treatment of upper extremity conditions. She received her advanced credentials in hand therapy in 2010 and recently completed her certification in ergonomic assessment.

Doug EmersonPhysical Therapist, Clinic Director
Doug received his master’s in physical therapy from Husson College in Bangor, Maine. He went on to gain his doctorate in 2007. Doug is an orthopaedic certified specialist and a certified mulligan practitioner. He enjoys treating his patients with a combination of manual therapy, exercise and functional movement patterns.

Shayna GrahamPhysical Therapist
Shayna joined the Howard Head Sports Medicine team from Canajoharie, NY, by way of Simmons College, where she earned her doctorate of physical therapy. Certified as a clinical instructor, Shayna specializes in vestibular rehabilitation and neurology. She is fluent in Spanish.

Jesse HortonPhysical Therapist
Jesse studied exercise science at the University of North Florida and worked as a personal trainer until 2008, when he returned to the University of North Florida to complete his Doctorate of Physical Therapy. After graduating, he worked for an outpatient sports medicine clinic in Jacksonville, FL.

Quinn Griffin Jenson - Physical Therapist
Quinn received her clinical doctorate in physical therapy from the University of North Dakota where she initially became interested in orthopaedics as well women’s health. She joined the Howard Head team to assist in expansion of the Women’s Health/ Pelvic Health program as well as treating the orthopaedic population. Quinn is currently training to become a specialized women’s health therapist and is trained as a pilates instructor which she uses frequently in her practice. Quinn enjoys working with all populations with a variety of orthopedic diagnoses, with a special interest in back, hip, knee and neck pain.  In her free time, Quinn enjoys exploring all that Colorado has to offer with her husband, Scott, and extremely spoiled dog, Harvey.

Laura Pliske - Patient Representative
Laura was raised in Redlands California where she majored in Health Education at Long Beach State. Later she moved to Denver to get her certificate in Injury Massage Therapy, and then up to the Vail Mountains where for the last 6 years has called Eagle her true home. Laura teaches Life support and first aid skills at Colorado Mountain College and loves to train dogs.

Jill Collins - Patient Representative
Jill was born and raised in Northern California, spending most of her winters skiing in the Tahoe area. She received her BS in Business Management and Marketing from the University of Nevada Reno. Prior to moving to Colorado she worked for her families driving school and for a private ski team and academy. Wanting to spend more time with her nieces and sisters, Jill moved to the Vail area and joined the Howard Head team.

Kelly Dantas – Physician Liaison & Marketing
Kelly received her BS in aviation management and French from the University of North Dakota and the Sorbonne in Paris. She moved to Vail soon after graduation and started working as the assistant manager of one of Vail’s on-mountain restaurants for Vail Resorts. This position evolved over the next 15 years to the group sales and services manager for Beaver Creek Resort. Over the past few years, Kelly managed the logistics for the Colorado Suzuki Music Institute Chamber Music program in Beaver Creek and worked in sales and event planning before joining the Howard Head team. Kelly has her pilot’s license, and in her free time enjoys traveling, mountain biking, skiing and participating in any activity with her children.

Stephanie Drew – Physical Therapist
Stephanie earned her master’s in physical therapy from Loma Linda University in California and went on to complete her doctorate. Simultaneously, she completed a year-long manual therapy residency. Stephanie has a strong background in Pilates and Maitland Therapy, successfully treating a broad spectrum of diagnoses. Her newest passion is women’s health.

Gretchen was raised and attended school in New Hampshire. She moved to the Gulf Coast of Florida and eventually worked her way to the Colorado mountains, where she has been living for over a decade.

Philip Galloway – Physical Therapist
Philip received his undergraduate degree in exercise science from Florida State University in 2006. He completed his doctorate of physical therapy at the University of North Florida in 2010 and upon completing an optional sports residency in South Carolina, he received sports certified specialist credentialing. He moved to the Vail Valley in 2012. Philip's specialties include shoulder and knee pathologies, as well as running and returning athletes to individualized sports. He is also certified in therapeutic dry needling and functional movement screening. In his free time, he enjoys mountain biking and running.

Christine Hasselbach – Physical Therapist
Christine Hasselbach attended the University of Colorado for her undergraduate degree as well as her master’s and clinical doctorate in physical therapy. She has worked as a physical therapist since 2004 and moved to the Vail Valley in 2007 to work with orthopaedic patients at Howard Head Sports Medicine and oncology patients at Shaw Regional Cancer Center. She is certified in lymphedema management and is a specialist in oncology therapy.

Brittney Huntimer – Physical Therapist
Brittney came to Howard Head through our sports physical therapy residency program. Originally from South Dakota, Brittney became interested in physical therapy while completing her undergraduate degree as a certified athletic trainer at Iowa State University, where she worked with Division I football and softball athletes. Brittney completed her doctorate in physical therapy at Des Moines University Osteopathic Medical Center. She is a board-certified sports clinical specialist and has a strong background in Pilates. Brittney is currently training to become a Fellow in the Orhopaedic Academy of Manual Physical Therapy. She specializes in the treatment of the spine, upper and lower extremity injuries, as well as concussion and return-to-sport treatment and management.

Andrea Sauer – Occupational Therapist
Andrea joins our outpatient occupational therapy team from Newburgh, Indiana. She completed her bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1999 and her occupational therapy degree in 2004 from Indiana University. Andrea achieved her certification in hand therapy in 2010, joining a prestigious group of therapists with advanced credentials in the treatment of hand and upper extremity injuries. Most recently, she attained a certification in manual lymph drainage and works with post-operative swelling in both orthopaedic and cancer patients.

Mary Leone – Occupational Therapist
A Minnesota native, Mary received her occupational therapy degree from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. She became a certified hand therapist in 2002 and has spent much of her career working in a rural orthopaedic practice. Mary has developed many diverse practice skills in areas of hand therapy, spinal cord and head injury rehabilitation, and pediatric rehabilitation.

Maura McQuillen – Physical Therapist
Maura grew up on the seacoast of New Hampshire and graduated from Notre Dame College with a master of physical therapy degree. Maura has spent her career in physical therapy, concentrating on orthopaedics and sports medicine injuries. Although her focus in spine injuries is one of her passions, she enjoys treating a wide variety of patients including post-operative patients, athletic injuries, and peripheral vestibular disorders.

Kathi Thomson – Occupational Therapist
Kathi received a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy and a master’s degree in applied physiology from Columbia University in New York. A certified hand therapist, Kathi has specialized in hand and upper extremity rehab at Howard Head Sports Medicine since 2000. Her experience as a personal trainer and health and fitness instructor complement a well-rounded approach to both post-operative and non-operative patients.

Lori Walter – Physical Therapist, Clinic Director
Lori received her master’s degree in physical therapy from Northwestern University. After working in a large medical center in the Chicago area, she joined a prestigious private practice in Boulder, Colorado in 2000, where she teamed with doctors and therapists to deliver exceptional care. After seven years in private practice, Lori moved to Germany to work with service members stationed abroad as a manager and primary therapist of Katterbach Physical Therapy Health Clinic. When she returned to Colorado, Lori launched a Boulder-based private practice and served active, busy clients in the convenience of their homes. Now living in Summit County, Lori has enhanced the Howard Head Sports Medicine team with expertise in manual therapy, functional therapeutic exercise, joint mobilization, and dry needling.

Eric Dube – Physical Therapist
Originally from Western Massachusetts, Eric attended American International College, where he earned his doctorate in physical therapy with valedictorian and summa cum laude honors. He has been part of the Howard Head team since 2011, working closely with the local surgical and primary care medical groups in Summit County. Eric works with the US Snowboardcross Team, covering World Cup and World Championship events internationally. Eric is board certified as an orthopaedic clinical specialist through the American Physical Therapy Association. His expertise includes functional manual therapy, sports rehabilitation, and soft tissue interventions, including functional dry needling and instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization.

Heather Murphy, Patient Rep  
Heather is a Colorado native who grew up in Golden. After working for the Denver Post she decided to escape the city and move to the mountains and change gears on her career. Now living in Leadville with her husband and two boys, Jaxon and Hunter, she is loving life in the high country. Heather has worked for Howard Head since 2013, and loves getting to know patients and seeing their progress. She loves her job and considers it as the cheerleader for patients and the accessory to the therapists.

Jingeu Park – Physical therapist
Originally from Watertown, NY, Jin earned a master of science in physical therapy at Ithaca College. Most of his career was spent in an outpatient setting focused on manual therapy in sport, orthopedic, spine and post-operative rehabilitation. Jin also served as a regional manager for a home health therapy agency in Maryland. In this role, he supervised a team of therapists with a goal of returning patients to maximum function after surgery and hospitalizations. He also focused on safety through individualized balance and fall prevention programs. In his spare time, Jin can be found fly fishing as a guide or with his wife and daughter.

Jill Sorensen – Physical Therapist
Jill graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder with a major in kinesiology and a minor in biology. She went on to receive her doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Montana. Jill found her way back to Colorado to join the Howard Head team at the Silverthorne clinic, where patients appreciate not only her clinical skills, but high energy and positive attitude as well.

Originally from Rochester, NY, Mike earned his master’s degree in physical therapy from Ithaca College, where he was a member of the Alpine Race Team. He is a McKenzie certified therapist - an advanced certification in the treatment of back and neck problems.

Matt Mymern – Physical Therapist
A Colorado native, Matt grew up in Pagosa Springs, CO, spending winters learning to ski at Wolf Creek. After completing his undergraduate degree at Colorado State University and earning his doctorate in physical therapy from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, Matt was a pioneer of the Howard Head Sport Medicine sports residency program before taking a full-time position as Dr. Sterett’s team leader. Matt spends roughly three months/year on the road as the team physical therapist for the US Women’s World Cup Team. He specializes in ski and snowboard injury rehabilitation, as well as injury prevention techniques. Matt has lectured nationally and locally on topics related to knee injuries.

Krissy LoPresti - Patient Representative
Krissy was born and raised in Michigan, where she earned an applied science degree. Looking for adventure and sunshine, she moved with her husband and young son to the Vail for the 2010 winter season, and hasn’t been able to leave. She started with Vail Resorts Hospitality before joining the Howard Head team. In her free time, Krissy enjoys camping, hiking, and snowboarding, with her family.

Ana Robinson – Physical Therapist
Born a proud Minnesotan, Ana attended undergraduate and graduate school at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN earning her masters in physical therapy. Her interest in sports medicine brought her to Vail, where she started her career at Howard Head Sports Medicine in 2006. Ana completed her orthopaedic residency and earned her transitional doctor of physical therapy degree at Regis University. As an orthopaedic specialist, Ana works closely with physicians and surgeons with an emphasis in lower extremity injuries and the foot and ankle. She has presented and published on the topic "return to sport" considerations for foot and ankle both locally and nationally. Ana has developed a great working relationship with the US Cross Country National Team. She traveled with them to the Sochi Winter Olympic Games in 2014 and the World Championships in Falun Sweden in 2015.

Originally from Wichita, Kansas, Andy received his undergraduate degree from Colorado College in 1998 and his master’s in physical therapy from the University of Colorado Health Sciences in 2003. As part of the inpatient team, Andy enjoys treating a variety of injuries and helping post-op patients get back on their feet.

Jake Bagley - Physical Therapist
Jake completed his undergraduate degree in exercise science at the University of Montana and continued his post graduate education in Queensland, Australia, earning a doctor of physical therapy in 2012. After working on the Gold Coast in Australia treating primarily rugby, and spinal pain clients, Jake pursued a temporary position in Wanaka, New Zealand to treat acute ski/ snowboard injuries as well as work with Olympic- hopeful snow sport athletes in preparation for the 2014 Sochi games.  After completing his contract there, Jake returned state- side to continue his career with Howard Head. He is very excited to continue to help community members and elite athletes alike achieve their sporting goals.

Mary Ellen Broersma - Clinic Manager
Mary Ellen is returning to HHSM as the Vail Clinic Manager. She has a strong musculoskeletal background and is recognized as a Certified Specialist in both Sports and Orthopedics by the American Physical Therapy Association. She has also earned full certification in Pilates Rehabilitation through STOTT Pilates. Mary Ellen has worked with clients of all levels, from professional athletes and performers to weekend warriors and enjoys those with motivation the best. Her treatment approach blends manual therapy with specific exercise prescription and education.

 

Helen Bradley – Physical Therapist, Sports Clinical Specialist
Helen is a qualified sport and exercise scientist and physiotherapist. She graduated from Sheffield Hallam University then Cardiff University in Wales. She has over eight years experience working in the health industry, both in the UK and the USA. She worked for the National Health Service in England for three years, specializing in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. She also worked as a sports physiotherapist for Lincoln Rugby Club and was an integral part of the medical team for the Royal Navy Cricket Team. Her interest in sports physiotherapy led her to pursue a master's in sport and exercise medicine.

Nicholas Brown – Physical Therapist, V.P. Therapy Operations
Nico joined Howard Head Sports Medicine in December 2007 as a seasonal physical therapist whose primary responsibility was to provide care for injured skiers once they were cleared by the Emergency Department. He then continued working as a staff therapist in the Vail office until February of 2009, when he was promoted to clinic director of the Edwards office. In the fall 2012, Nico became one of two vice presidents leading the organization’s nine clinics. Nico received his undergraduate degree from Emory University and his master's in physical therapy from Georgia State University.

Emily Cadmus - Patient Representative
Emily joined us from the dental world wanting to get more involved in the medical field. She moved to Vail in 2011 from Arizona, and is loving the snow and wildlife compared to desert heat and scorpions! When she is not working, she enjoys hiking, camping, photography, and spending time with her husband.

Meghan Curley – Physical Therapist
Meghan joined the Howard Head team in 2007 after graduating from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor’s degree in health studies and a master’s in physical therapy. Meghan became a sport certified specialist in 2009 and a performance enhancement specialist in 2010. She has focused on the treatment of lower extremity musculoskeletal disorders with an emphasis on the hip and knee. She specializes in orthopaedics and sports medicine and has treated a wide range of athletes from the recreational to professional level.

Brooke M. DelVecchio - Physical Therapist 
Brooke was born and raised in North Dakota and received her bachelor’s degree in biology from Minnesota State University—Moorhead. Brooke moved to Colorado soon after completing her undergraduate degree, where she spent 5 years whitewater rafting and skiing prior to returning to the Dakotas to attend graduate school. Brooke obtained her doctorate in physical therapy from The University of South Dakota and returned to Colorado to work at Howard Head Sports Medicine in 2010. As a former member of the U.S.Women’s National Raft Team and an avid mountain biker, skier and hiker, Brooke enjoys living and working in the Vail Valley. Brooke received her board certification in orthopaedics in 2015 and enjoys working with clients of every age and ability. Brooke treats a variety of orthopedic and musculoskeletal injuries and is the team leader for Dr. Millett of The Steadman Clinic.

Ashley Dentler – Inpatient Therapy Manager, Physical Therapist
Ashley received her Doctor of Physical Therapy from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. While in school, she became a certified strength and conditioning specialist. She has had training in outpatient orthopaedics, neuromuscular rehabilitation, functional movement therapy, and manual lymphatic drainage. Ashley is responsible for treating patients on the patient care unit as well as all post-operative patients with both medical and orthopaedic diagnoses.

Zack DiCristino, MSPT, OCS
Zack grew up in North Carolina where he completed his bachelor’s degree in exercise science at the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill in 1998. He went from the Appalachian mountains to the Rockies to complete his masters of science in physical therapy degree at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 2003. After beginning his career at Howard Head Sports Medicine in Vail, Zack took his wealth of experience and helped start and develop the Outpatient Orthopaedics and Sport Medicine Rehabilitation Department at Stanford University Hospital and Clinics. He was then recruited to work at Stanford University Athletics where he worked with Division I student athletes from 36 athletic teams. Eventually, the calling of the mountains and its contagious culture drew Zack back to Vail and Howard Head where he started his career. His special interests are in manual therapy, return to sport/activity-integration therapy progressions, the running and rock-climbing athletes.

Pat Donnellan - Physical Therapist
Patrick was born and raised in New Hampshire and attended Northeastern University in Boston where he received his bachelors in rehabilitation science. He continued at Northeastern to get his doctorate in physical therapy. His clinical interests include diagnosis and treatment of movement impairment syndromes, post-surgical rehabilitation, treatment of spinal conditions and neuro-orthopedics and the study of pain science. Patrick is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist.

Melissa Gordon – Occupational Therapist
Originaly from Kentucky, Melissa received her undergraduate degree in communications from University of Louisville in 2007. After moving to Florida, she pursed her Master’s of Occupational Therapy from Nova Southeastern University in 2013. She has since moved to Colorado and pursued training in Kinesio tape certification, neurological deficits and dementia. Melissa works passionately in assisting patients with both medical and orthopedic diagnoses in regaining functional independence with self-care activities following illness or injury.

Laurie Griffin – Physical Therapist
Laurie completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and her master’s in physical therapy at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. In 2010, she earned her doctorate of physical therapy and completed her orthopaedic residency. In 2011, she received her orthopaedic certified specialist certification. She is the team leader for Dr. LaPrade of The Steadman Clinic and specializes in complex knee injuries. She also works closely with hip arthroscopy patients of Dr. Phillippon of The Steadman Clinic.

Erin Harding – Physical Therapist Aide
Erin earned her bachelor of arts in psychology and elementary education from Washington College, where she played soccer and solidified her love of sports. She then moved to Colorado to complete her Master of Arts in sport and performance psychology at the University of Denver in 2010. She splits her time between Howard Head and Ski Club Vail.

 

Jenna Hodge – Physical Therapist
Jenna completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Miami in Ohio. She earned her master’s in physical therapy from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center after completing her last clinical rotation with HHSM Vail’s inpatient rehab team.

Vinny Martin – Physical Therapist
Vinny is originally from Maine and graduated from the University of Maine in 2011 with a degree in exercise science and physiology. He continued his education at Husson University, graduating in 2014 with his doctorate of physical therapy. Vinny is interested in orthopaedic and sports rehabilitation with prior experience working in this setting. He enjoys the outdoors, skiing, biking, kayaking, and hiking.

 

Amanda Mascarenas – Patient Representative
A native of Colorado, Amanda was born and raised in Leadville, recently listed as the “Trailway to Heaven” by Runner’s World magazine. She recently welcomed her second baby boy and enjoys spending time with her new family or cheering on the Broncos.

Nate completed his undergraduate degree in sports medicine and pre physical therapy from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.  After spending 4 years in cold north central Pennsylvania, he pursued his doctorate in physical therapy from the University of St Augustine for health sciences in warm and sunny, St Augustine, Florida. After graduating and working a travel physical therapy position in Canon City, Colorado, Nate began as a sports physical therapy resident at Howard Head Sports Medicine. He thoroughly enjoys working with athletes of all ranges, from the weekend warrior to professionals. His career goals are to open his own physical therapy practice in conjuction with other medical wellness professionals to provide an extremely balanced approach to patient health. He enjoys cycling, strength training, hiking and exploring beautiful Colorado!

 

Shauna Nelson – Occupational Therapist
Shauna grew up in Highlands Ranch, CO. In 2010, she received a degree in kinesiology and health from the University of Wyoming, where she was also a member of the division I swim team. She then moved to Arizona to pursue her masters in occupational therapy from A.T Still University. Since graduating from OT school, Shauna has worked in pediatrics in Arizona and Florida. She recently moved back to Colorado to pursue her interest in helping people with orthopedic and medical conditions in a hospital setting. Shauna plans to work towards becoming a certified hand therapist.

Luke O’Brien – Physical Therapist, V.P. Therapy Operations
Luke is the vice president of clinical physical therapy in Vail and the rehabilitation coordinator for Dr. Richard Steadman. Since joining Howard Head Sports Medicine as a physical therapist in 2002, he has focused on the treatment of lower extremity musculoskeletal disorders with a specialization in the treatment of the knee. Luke has served as an assistant physical therapist for the US Ski Team, and as a consultant to many athletes, including those of Manchester United and Barcelona football clubs, the New York Mets, and the Portland Trail Blazers. Luke has also published numerous articles and text book chapters and has an adjunct faculty position at the University of Colorado. He holds a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of Queensland and a Master of Sports Physiotherapy from LaTrobe University.  Luke is also a sports certified specialist as recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association.

Laura Olderog – Physical Therapist, Certified Hand Therapist
Laura received a degree in music from the University of Northern Iowa. She left the Midwest in 2006 to pursue her master of science in occupational therapy from Colorado State University. Laura spent four years working in the border town of Yuma, AZ  with a diverse group of patients (English and Spanish speaking). She has specialized in neurological rehab and treatment of lymphatic disorders and lymphedema treatment, earning her Clinical Laboratory Technician degree in 2008.

Thomas Olson – Physical Therapist
A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with bachelor's degrees in both zoology and history, Thomas moved to Vail to ski and work as a whitewater raft guide. As a member of the U.S. Men’s National Whitewater Raft Team, Thomas worked closely with HHSM staff to develop the team’s performance enhancement program. This experience sparked his interest in sports medicine and led him to pursue his doctorate of physical therapy at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He then went on to complete a post-graduate sports residency at Gundersen Lutheran Sports Medicine, earning his sports certified specialist designation in 2010. In addition to focusing on patient recovery from shoulder and knee injuries, Thomas’s commitment to continuing education has inspired him to present and publish at the local and national level.

Sofija Phillips – Physical Therapist, Certified Hand Therapist
Originally from the “Windy City” of Chicago, Sofija is a physical therapist, certified hand therapist, and director of elbow, wrist and hand therapy at Howard Head Sports Medicine. She received her master of physical therapy from Marquette University in 1999 and went on to specialize in the treatment of the upper extremity. She completed her certification in hand therapy in 2005. She then completed her certification in manual therapy through IAOM-US in 2013. Her passion is the treatment of upper extremity disorders using a manual therapy approach. Sofija has also been a teaching assistant in the physical therapy programs at both the University of Wisconsin and University of Colorado. Most recently, Sofija completed her certification in ergonomic assessment.

Alix Pitts – Physical Therapy Aide 
Alix was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. After years of hip pain while playing soccer, she came to Vail in 2012 to see Dr. Philippon with The Steadman Clinic and Howard Head for treatment and rehabilitation. Her experiences at HHSM helped her develop a passion for sports medicine and physical therapy. Upon completion of her undergrad work at Ohio State, Alix immediately returned to Vail to experience the other side of patient care while preparing for graduate school for physical therapy. Alix is loving life in the mountains-- working with a great team, hiking, yoga, and skiing in her free time!

 

Kelly Platt – Occupational Therapist
Kelly graduated in 1998 with her bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from Saint Louis University and became a certified hand therapist in 2003. Specializing in post-operative static and dynamic splinting, Kelly joined HHSM in 2005 and has played an integral part in building the occupational therapy team. Her determination to help patients return to the sports they love is sparked by her own passion for athletics.

Born and raised in Colorado, Matt received his undergraduate degree in human physiology from the University of Oregon before returning to earn his doctorate from the University of Colorado – Denver. Matt has a passion for physical therapy with an interest in orthopedic and sports PT and his ultimate goal is to help patients back to the things they love.

Tricia Rieger – Physical Therapy Aide
Originally from Colorado Springs, Tricia spent most of her youth in Indianapolis, IN. She received her BS in biology from Purdue University in 2012 where she participated in rowing crew and equestrian competitions while cheering on her dear Boilermakers. Tricia has always had a passion for sports and pediatric therapy and will pursue her doctorate of physical therapy in 2015. She eventually would like to practice in Australia or New Zealand and hopes to continue volunteer work in Nicaragua. When she’s not working at Howard Head, Tricia enjoys hiking any trail she can find and traveling to World Heritage Sites.

Rachel Rourke - 
Rachel grew up in Michigan, where from a fairly young age; knew she was interested in helping people. Through personal experiences helping family members and experiencing injuries of her own, she dealt with getting care first hand. That led her to consider physical therapy as my own career. Rachel loved the idea of being able to provide someone with the knowledge and tools to allow increased independence and improved quality of life. She completed her undergraduate education at the University of Dayton, receiving her bachelor’s in exercise science and pre-physical therapy. Rachel pursued her doctorate at Temple University, choosing to do clinical internships throughout the country: St. Louis, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Oklahoma and then moved to Colorado after graduation, drawn to the beauty and activities the mountain life provided. Rachel is a graduate of the Howard Head Sports Physical Therapy Residency program.

Erica Ryan - Physical Therapist
Erica is originally from Saint Louis, Missouri. She attended undergraduate school at Washington University in Saint Louis and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in French after spending a year abroad in Toulouse, France. She attended Physical Therapy school at the University of Missouri. She made Colorado her home in 2005 and has lived both in the Front Range and in the Vail Valley since that time. Erica has a board certification in orthopedics, is certified in trigger point dry needling and Pilates, and is a Graston technique practitioner. She has training in functional movement analysis and treats from a comprehensive evaluation of movement patterns. She enjoys treating athletes from every discipline and has a special affinity for long distance athletes and triathletes. Erica is an Ironman triathlete and is working toward the goal of running a marathon in every state.

Mark received his bachelor’s degree in exercise & sports science from Colorado State University and his master’s degree in athletic training from Illinois State University before working in professional baseball for eight years. Working for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Texas Rangers, and Boston Red Sox organizations, Mark specialized in the treatment of various complex injuries. As a certified athletic trainer, strength & conditioning specialist, and ACSM health fitness instructor, Mark enjoys helping enhance patients’ athletic performance and specializes in return to sport training.

New to Colorado and originates from New Jersey. Lauren has a degree in gerontology from Montclair State University with a strong background in home health care working mainly with the senior population. Lauren has a strong passion for the medical world and is excited to see it in a different light working as a patient representative for Howard Head Sports Medicine. In her free time she loves to ski, hike and explore her new home in Colorado.

Jessica is from Boston, MA where she received a bachelor of science in rehabilitation science, a master of science in physical therapy and a doctor of physical therapy at Northeastern University. Following graduation Jessica specialized in pediatrics, obtaining APTA board certification, with a clinical interest in the neonatal population. She highly values her continued growth and diversity as a clinician. 

 

Melissa Strzelinski 
Melissa joined HHSM after nearly 6 years of clinical practice as an outpatient orthopedic physical therapist in her hometown of Chicago, Illinois. Melissa earned bachelor of science degrees in journalism and dance as well as a graduate degree in physical therapy from the University of Wisconsin. Melissa’s clinical expertise in dance medicine afforded her the role of staff physical therapist to the Joffrey Ballet, Joffrey Academy of Dance, and River North Dance Chicago. Melissa provided injury screenings and clinical care to numerous educational institutions.  Melissa is currently pursuing her PhD in orthopaedic and sport science through Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in Provo, Utah. Melissa has presented a case study of a young dancer’s hip injury at the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science annual conference in Basel, Switzerland and recently published a clinical commentary regarding gait considerations after hip arthroscopy. Melissa is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science.

Paul Westgard 
Paul is originally from North Dakota and earned his bachelor degree from North Dakota State University. He completed his master of physical therapy degree and his doctor of physical therapy degree from the University of Colorado. Paul is board certified in both orthopaedic and sports physical therapy in addition to being a certified strength and conditioning specialist. He has special interest in the rehabilitation of post-surgical shoulder, elbow, and knee injuries and has extensive experience in treating a wide array of orthopedic and sports related injuries in athletes of all ages including collegiate, Olympic, and professional athletes from the MLB, NFL, US Ski and Snowboard Association, and Formula 1. In addition, Paul has co-authored an article on rehabilitation following arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and a book chapter on rehabilitation following acute shoulder dislocation.

Caitlin Woolridge
Caitlin completed her undergraduate education at University of Iowa, receiving a degree in integrative physiology. After many overuse injuries and experiences of rehabilitation herself, Caitlin developed a passion for sports medicine and physical therapy. These experiences lead Caitlin to the University of Minnesota where she earned a doctorate of physical therapy. While in school, she became a certified strength and conditioning specialist as well as an ImPACT trained physical therapist. After one year of practicing outpatient orthopedics in the Chicagoland area, Caitlin decided to pursue advanced post-graduate training in sports medicine through a physical therapy residency program. Now, as a Howard Head Sports Physical Therapy Resident and a member of the outpatient physical therapy team, Caitlin is working towards her sports clinical specialty. In her free time, Caitlin loves staying active as possible with hiking, skiing, yoga and running.

 

Laura Yeager - Physical Therapist
Laura received her doctorate in physical therapy from Duke University in North Carolina. Following her graduation, Laura worked at Lancaster Orthopedic group, in her hometown in rural Pennsylvania, gaining experience in outpatient and sports physical therapy. She specialized in injury prevention and performance enhancement of athletes, prior to accepting a position with Women’s Tennis Association. Laura was a full-time member of the Sports Science and Medicine Team, traveling to 16 tournaments per year, including Wimbledon and the US Open to provide medical coverage and daily treatments of the athletes, including several olympic gold medalists. In addition to serving as a primary health care provider at each tournament, her professional responsibilities also included serving as the coordinator of the Orthotics, Shoes, and Equipment Departments for WTA while residing in St. Petersburg, FL. She also provided coverage for the US ski team during their summer training in Chile as well as US Snowboarding in Colorado in 2011.  Now with Howard Head Sports Medicine as a full time staff physical therapist, she specializes in sports medicine and post-operative rehabilitation.

Doug received his master’s in physical therapy from Husson College in Bangor, Maine. He went on to gain his doctorate in 2007. Doug is an orthopaedic certified specialist and a certified Mulligan practitioner. He enjoys treating his patients with a combination of manual therapy, exercise and functional movement patterns.

Erin has worked in outpatient orthopedics since 2011 with an interest in sports injury and spine rehabilitation. She was recipient of the Mary Gosnell Award for Clinical Excellence in 2011 from the University of Colorado. She has certificates in functional dry needling, selective functional movement assessment, running analysis, concussion and neural tension, gait analysis, joint manipulation, pediatric physical therapy, and movement system impairment syndromes. Erin has been a registered yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance since 2005 and teaches classes and workshops including healing back pain with Yoga, Yoga for injuries on the mend, sports vinyasa, and Yoga for skiers.

Lyndee Paulus - Physical Therapist
Lyndee was born and raised in Northern Michigan. Her passion for ski racing led her to pursue an athletic career both on the U.S. Ski Team and at University of Vermont. While at the University of Vermont she received her undergraduate degree in exercise and movement science, followed by a doctorate degree in physical therapy. Following graduate school, she moved to Colorado Springs, CO to work for a large outpatient orthopedic clinic where she received extensive training in post-operative hip, knee and shoulder rehabilitation. Lyndee is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist, which has prepared her for getting people back to the activities and sports they enjoy. Her clinical interests include manual therapy techniques, post-surgical rehabilitation, sports related injuries and Pilates-based rehabilitation.

Kaitlyn grew up in Southern Vermont. Her love of the outdoors and skiing led her to Colorado for college in 2008. She attended Colorado State University where she earned her undergraduate degree in Health and Exercise Science alongside a minor in Business Administration. After college she moved to Breckenridge where she worked at the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center as an Adaptive Sports Instructor until beginning employment with Howard Head Sports Medicine in November 2015. Her passions include skiing, hiking, cooking, music and exploring the Colorado wilderness with her dog.
